The Flying Kiwi - Hawaiian Edition

Aloha Whānau

Thursday 19th November, 2015

So, Hania and I have been in Hawaii for 4 days now, and of those 4 days - we’ve probably had only 7 hours WITHOUT rain.. LoL!  Hania’s like ‘I didn’t know it rained in Hawaii’.. OR my favourite ‘I wanted shopping and sun while I was in Hawaii.. I’ve only had one of those!’.
Needless to say it has indeed been raining a LOT - then someone told us ‘Yeah, you’ve come during Hawaii’s raining season’... Yeah - they didn’t give us that warning on Hawaiian Airlines while we booked the tickets - there was probably some small print somewhere going.

HAWAIIAN AIRLINE TICKETS: BOOKED
Sucker - you’re going during the rainiest or rainy season! It’s going to rain cats and dogs while you’re there!  Hope you enjoy the rain.

Actually, though - LoL! It’s likely to be somewhere in the ‘fine' print.  Haha!

So, after steamboat, we said goodby to Aunty Mate, Mum & Tiare because Iwingaro took us to do some last minute shopping at the supermarket before we checked in - it was lovely, then off we went to the airport.  It was a quick goodbye to Iwi and we were on our way.
Iwi was like ‘be good’.. haha.. he’s funny.  As we went through customs and duty free - this guy showed us a new perfume fragrance (Spawnbrezzie comment) and so we tried it, and got a sample of it from Sephora at another time... It’s real nice!  Clearly, (re: Spawnbrezzie) I’m definitely going to buy it.

HAWAIIAN AIRLINES - I mean, prefer AirNZ any day, any time - those prices though! So, off we flew on HA - and it was okay. Hania wasn’t feeling well though, so needed to “get-up” a couple of times to venture to ‘other’ places on the plane..  The kai was pretty basic, even for an airline kai.

ARRIVAL - as soon as we stepped off the plane - we felt the heat and humidity right away.  Man! But it was cool and we were on our way!  The getting through to the passports took forever and I really missed having mum and a wheelchair to fast-track us through the customs - she’s a real buddy to have when traveling internationally... Next time Mumsy!

So we get here and it’s still Thursday 19th November - we picked up our car.  The lady at advantage is like ‘I’m going to need to put a $200USD block on your card until you drop the car back off’ - and I knew this happened, but didn’t realise the impact of it until she spoke it to me - and I’m like ‘So, I’ll have $200USD back on my card, the DAY I leave Hawaii?’ She’s like ‘Yeah’ - and of course most of you will know I’m thinking ‘Where the heck am I gonna spend that?’ coz of course - I can’t go home to NZ with USD on my card - DUTY FREE, new perfume - here I come... LoL!

So, after that moment we decided on going to Walmart to pick up some groceries for our room and then check-in.  I’m really glad that mum found our GPS from our trip last year - Hania and I have named ‘Carmen’ but with the pronunciation of ‘Garmin’ because that’s the make of the GPS - glad that Mum found it and was able to get it to us - saved us MONEY because we didn’t have to hire one AND, has just been really helpful getting us around the moutere nei...

After Walmart, we found our place of residence - Ohia Waikiki, Kuhio Ave - and on our way here we drove passed VIVE where Mum and I stayed last year and the Ohana Waikiki West where mum and I stayed our LAST night in Hawaii on our ‘The Flying Kiwi’s’ adventure - it was really cool being back - and thinking of Mumsy (of course)... BUT, she was spending a FUN weekend in Auckland with Aunty Mate - so I’m sure they enjoyed their weekend together!

We get to our place and on the outside it looks pretty shady - LoL!  We arrived pretty early and our room wasn’t ready for check-in - so, we were pretty hungry at this stage because it was 2.30pm and we hadn’t eaten since before we landed earlier that day (it was disgusting airline breakfast that we didn’t eat, so you could say our last kai was steamboat - LoL).  So, we went and had a kai at a place Hania and her friend had eaten at when they were here last year.

On a side note ***OUR NAMES: Hania & Pania*** were beginning to really have some fun telling people our names - because of course, we know each other individually - but as we’re meeting new people and telling them our names - it takes a while because they sound soooooo similar - but are not.. then we get the whole ‘are you sisters?’  YES - sisters... LoL!

We come up to our room & you know - it’s pretty ok... the two double beds with a city view and the beds are so nice and comfortable - will have to take a photo at some point.  We unpacked and had a Nanny nap then went to watch Mockingjay Part 2 - with Hania’s friend Mara after a little kai at ‘California Pizza Kitchen’... We really enjoyed the movie - it was pretty awesome and epic! Especially coz I didn’t read the books and it was good end.  ‘Peeta, stay with me’... ‘Forever’... he goes - ah, so romantic! LoL..

And the rain came tumbling down...!!

UNCLE ROSS DAY - so, we decided today was the day we’d attempt 6/12 Uncle Ross (Dress for Less) day - off we go, to Ross #1...

(Insert PICTURES here - later)

Yeah - spent roughly 2hours in the first one - which meant we weren’t really going to get to the other 5 stores on Friday - FUNNY!  So, we were pretty thirsty after the shopping venture, and found a juice bar across the road from Ross - they’re like, the peanut butter/banana drink is the favourite - we’re like ‘QUE?’... I mean, ‘What?’... so, we did it and man YUM!!! Then we were off to our second ROSS - Mum and I went to this particular store - it was nice having Mum on my mind and we’re doing this hīkoi in Hawaii... awwww!  We didn’t spend too long at this store - finally had a quick lunch at this place called ‘WAHOOO’ and I thought about Tawa and his ‘AHOOOOO’ kind of laugh - that was funny!

Then we went to get ready for the KAHUKU vs ST LOUIS football game at Aloha Stadium - now originally we had planned to go for KAHUKU, but somehow ended up sitting on the ST LOUIS side of the stadium... HAHA! So, we had to change codes or DIE...

And the rain came tumbling down...!!

It was POURING cats and dogs while we were at the game - SO lucky we had bought ourselves some rain poncho’s - I was repping my ALL BLACKs jersey... coz that’s how we do!  Anyway, quickly swapped codes to ST LOUIS - that I’ll cover later... man, there were so many start and stops in the game - each 1/4 is only 12 minutes, but I swear we’d been sitting there for half an hour and the countdown was only at 7mins... the friendly guy behind us is like ‘yeah, time goes really fast’ and I go ‘I don’t know - coz that was the LONGEST 5 minutes of my LIFE’... because of the starting and stopping - 5minutes, is NOT 5 minutes... LoL!!  So, we left before half time... we were happy with our efforts.  MOE TIME!!

ALOHA & here we cooooome!!
Our FIRST kai - hungry as!
Off to our FIRST ever football game!!
Kahuku VS St Louis - High School Finals

Will POST more pictures soon...
